The Society of Master Impressionists

Welcome

…. to the site of The Society of Master Impressionists .We are excited about the future of Impressionism. But look back at the past for insight:

When the Impressionists first exhibited their paintings in the 1870s, critics ridiculed the movement and the general public expressed outrage upon seeing such radical artistic techniques. However, during the latter half of the 20th century, Impressionism, with its colorful evocations of urban and country life, has become immensely popular.

The impressionist style of painting is characterized chiefly by concentration on the general impression produced by a scene or object and the use of colors and small strokes to simulate visual reality in terms of transient effects of light and colour.

Impressionist sculpture, is by definition a figural art of solid form more closely related to the Realists while being committed to traditional subject matter. Working in conventional materials, Impressionistic sculptors created a style that echoed painting's technical freedom and often displaying light catching complexity and suggestiveness that evoke rapid sketching in clay or plaster.

In fact, the Impressionism is a lot more a state of the mind than a technique.

With the International 2007 Exhibition for The Society of Master Impressionists again at The Sunset Center in Amarillo, Texas because of the success of last year’s exhibition SMI’s choice for this location was simple.  It is the place where the Artists and the Collectors will merge in a creative environment that has a back drop of a magnificent place where many go to create:  Palo Duro Canyon. So, with our host The Sunset Art Gallery of Amarillo and The Society of Master Impressionists we continue this new journey for the Arts. Beginning in June 2007 with the Workshops, Demonstrations and  over $10,000.00 in awards it will be an event not to miss.
